In an effort to get to know our neighbors better, LORNA hosts several events throughout the year.
The Mega Yard Sale and Neighborhood Fair is always a big success! A street in LORNA is blocked off to through traffic and space is provided for neighbors to bring their goods to sell or items are donated for LORNA to sell and raise funds. The neighborhood fair usually includes a bounce house, BBQ, side dish and dessert competition, face painting, demonstrations from the Fire Department and Police Department, and other interesting/educational booths.
LORNA participates in the Holiday Parade of Lights by decorating a float and riding on the float down Main Street to Oldtown Salinas. Neighbors bring their creative juices and tasty treats before hopping aboard the float to sing holiday carols.
The LORNA Pizza Throwdown is held every year at a neighbor’s house who has a wood fired pizza oven. Neighbors are encouraged to get creative with their various pizza toppings to see who wins the best pizza. There is also a competition for best side dish and dessert. Can you tell we love food in our neighborhood?! The afternoon consists of good food, good company and activities for the kids.
Lastly, there are several ideas for future events such as local high school football games, mixers, bingo and outdoor movie night. If you have an idea for a future event, please contact us at lornawatch@gmail.com.
